‘Thamassu’ in Trouble

The debut directorial venture of stormy petrel Agni Sridhar (a reformed don, editor of tabloid ‘Agni’ in Kannada) ‘Thamassu’ starring hat trick hero Shivarajakumar and Padmapriya has run in to great trouble.

For the objectionable Hindu and Muslim portions the regional censor chief K Nagaraj sought the intervention of Sharmila Tagore, the Central Censor Board chief and as a result the senior cop A.R.Infant was asked to view the film and give his opinion on the communal violence shown in the film.

This has irked the producer Ravindra and director Agni Sridhar. “We have not hurt any religion. We have made the film to the present scenario. We would go to Delhi Tribunal”, says producer Ravindra.

As a matter of fact the censor trouble was expected right from the day of audio release of the film ‘Thamassu’. The song screened “Maro Maro Allah, Kochchu Kochchu Raam Raam…” raised eyebrows of many who watched the song that showed the Hindu Muslim clashes.

In addition to it in the newspapers the advertisement in Kannada said ‘Allah and Ram antha Shaithan Namage Bekagilla’ – Allah and Ram are devils we don’t want.

This particular statement without the knowledge of superstar Shivarajakumar has irked him and in the coming advertisements on the advice of Shivarajakumar it was changed without hurting the sentiments of Hindu and Muslims.

Now the Regional Censor Board watching the cinema ‘Thamassu’ made clips of the objectionable scenes and sought the permission from higher bodies.

”It is not the first time we are seeking the experts opinions”, says regional censor Nagaraj. “In case we succumb to pressure and give the certificate, trouble may erupt in the society. For everyone there is only one rule and one path”, says Nagaraj.

In the recent past ‘Shankar IPS’, ‘Maadesha’, ‘Moggina Manasu’, ‘Hodi Maga’, ‘Cheluvina Chittara’ and ‘Cyanide’ films faced censor objections.
